Do You Have Adult ADHD?

Are you or a loved one struggling with symptoms consistent with ADHD? You're not alone. I specialise in helping neurodiverse adults to gain the clarity and self-understanding they need to move forward and reach their full potential in the areas that matter most to them.

What Is Adult ADHD?

Adult ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects approximately 4% of adults. It is characterised by difficulties with attention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. These symptoms often manifest in different ways for adults compared to children, making it challenging for some clinicians without specialist training to identify it. Sometimes ADHD is mistaken for mental health conditions such as bipolar disorder, or missed altogether.

Diagnosing Adult ADHD

If you suspect that you or a loved one may have adult ADHD, it is essential to find an expert with the training and knowledge to give you an accurate diagnosis. A comprehensive assessment process involves gathering information from self-report questionnaires and a clinical interview lasting approximately two hours, alongside other supporting evidence.

Expert Assessment With A HCPC Registered clinical Psychologist

As a HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist with specialist training and experience in diagnosing and treating adults with ADHD, I provide expert and comprehensive psychological and ADHD assessments. Adults with ADHD may also experience co-occuring mental health issues, such as anxiety, depression or trauma-related symptoms. A HCPC registered clinical psychologist has the expertise to identify these co-occurring conditions, providing a comprehensive approach to assessment and treatment.

What is a HCPC Registered Clinical Psychologist?

A HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council) registered clinical psychologist is a highly trained professional who has completed a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and has also undergone additional training to become specialised in the assessment and treatment of mental health disorders, including ADHD. They are regulated by the HCPC, which ensures that they meet certain standards of proficiency, conduct, and ethics.

Private ADHD Assessment
  • We follow the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines with regard to ADHD Assessment and Diagosis.

Our adult ADHD assessment process is outlined below.

    Step 1.

    INITIAL SCREENING STAGE

You will be asked to complete a number of self-report questionnaires that measure ADHD symptoms and mental health as part of our initial screening process.

You will then meet with Clinical Psychologist Dr Lorna Kerr for a 30 minute appointment to discuss the outcome of the screening and her recommendations for next steps.

If the screening is positive you will be invited to Step 2.

    Step 2.

CLINICAL & DIAGNOSTIC INTERVIEW & COLLECTION OF FURTHER SUPPORTING INFORMATION

The diagnostic interview lasts up to three hours (the Diagnostic Interview for ADHD in Adults, DIVA-5).

At this stage we will also invite you to forward us any relevant reports or other relevant paperwork or supporting evidence you might have available (e.g., old school reports, mental health assessments, etc).

Where relevant and appropriate, we will discuss the possibility of asking those who are closest to you now and/or people have known you since childhood to complete some questionnaires about your symptoms.

    Step 3.

PSYCHOLOGIST REVIEWS DATA COLLECTED OVER THE COURSE OF YOUR ASSESSMENT

Our Clinical Psychologist will review all the data collected over the course of your assessment, in order to consider a formal diagnosis.

    Step 4.

MEET WITH PSYCHOLOGIST TO DISCUSS THE OUTCOME OF THE ASSESSMENT

You will be invited to attend an online appointment lasting approximately 30 minutes, where we will have an opportunity to discuss the outcome of the assessment and our recommendations. At this stage Dr Lorna Kerr will inform you about whether or not you will receive a diagnosis of ADHD. There will also be an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have.

    Step 5.

PREPARATION OF REPORT BY CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST

You will receive a report documenting the outcome of the assessment, prepared by Dr Lorna Kerr, alongside a brief summary report, which you may wish to share with relevant others.
